A New Keyboard and Mouse
Alan Kogosowski profile

Alan Kogosowski has designed a new computer keyboard, laptop and mouse which removes the risk of the onset and development of RSI and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

A Preventative Solution

Unlike his great predecessor Vladimir Horowitz, who redesigned the keyboard action of his own Steinway to make it lighter and easier to play, and refused to play on any other piano, Kogosowski is able to employ his own technique on any piano keyboard.

He has, however, redesigned today's computer keyboard, as well as mouse, in order to conform to the medically recognized demands of natural and unstrained hand, finger and wrist movements. This patent pending design eliminates the stresses which even other "ergonomic" keyboards can create, by allowing the hand and fingers to move in a manner completely consistent with their natural positioning and co-ordination, thus removing any possibility of RSI.

Kogosowski can also help those using conventional keyboards (see Alan Kogosowski - Consultant) to minimize the negative effects which bring on the symptoms and development of RSI and CTS. However, with a revolutionary, yet simple, practical and economically realizable keyboard and mouse design these problems need never be encountered at all.

Background

Mr. Kogosowski's designs are based on his lifelong study and extended work at the piano keyboard. His grasp of the ideal usage patterns of the fingers and hands was instinctive from an early age. However, in order to ensure the transition from child prodigy to professional performer, it was necessary to study intensively, and in the most minute detail, the exact movements of the finger muscles, and the positioning of arm in relation to hand, as well as posture and displacement of body weight.

These studies were pursued firstly in his home city of Melbourne, under a master of the old European school of piano playing, and subsequently in London, Paris and Warsaw. By his early twenties he had brought all these influences together into a unique understanding of the coordination of the fingers and hands..

Unique Ability

Alan Kogosowski's special knowledge ave him the ability to play the most difficult virtuoso works composed for the piano. At his London debut, he performed the complete twelve Etudes d' Execution Transcendant (Transcendental Etudes) by Franz Liszt, perhaps the most physically demanding of all piano music, without a break.

A Special Perspective

Kogosowski's insight into the workings of the hand was further enhanced when, at the age of twenty-one, he was involved in a car accident in which a number of the bones in his right hand were broken. Concentrating on performance with one hand alone for a year, then relearning to use his right hand by intellectual as well as instinctual means, his understanding of hand and finger technique was consolidated.

A Revolutionary Concept

The Kogosowski Keyboard and Mouse use the traditional QWERTY layout, as well as standard keyboard electronics and mouse technology. However, the basic design concept of the Kogosowski Keyboard and Mouse completely eliminates the long-term problems of Repetitive Strain Injury by positioning the hands and fingers in such a manner that strain will never occur. The operator will even experience a soothing feeling of relaxation while working at the keyboard, as some people find the process of driving a car physically relaxing.
